St. Patrick’s day falls on the 17th March. The Paddy’s Day festivities are sure to extend throughout the weekend of Paddyfaux (a cookie if you can tell where the name for the event came from.)*
There will be the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade held on the Thursday immediately preceding the weekend, running right past the Imperial Hotel. In addition there will be numerous festivities and events throughout the city. More information will be provided as it gets closer to the date and the celebrations get nailed down.
Places to Eat, Drink and Be Merry
There’s a wide selection of top class restaurants, diners, take-outs and eateries in Cork City. Some which are particularly good and conveniently placed in relation to the Brú Hostel are Dan Lowrey’s Tavern, Sakura Japanese restaurant and The Fish Wife all located on MacCurtain St.
Dan Lowrey’s Tavern is an award winning family owned and run, traditional Cork pub serving delicious home cooked meals and many local beers such as Tom Crean’s Lager, Blarney Blonde and Rebel Red and the local cider Shandon Cider. Along with traditional Japanese meals Sakura offer sushi, take away and bento boxes. The Fish Wife is a takeaway that serves award winning fish and chips and burgers right from a local butcher.
Around the corner from the Imperial Hotel is the Crane Lane, one of Cork’s most popular Late Bars, which also serves a great selection of craft beers. (it is only the smallest of stumbles away from the Imperial Hotel.)
Cork Tourist Attractions
Throughout Cork City and County are many different tourist attractions ranging from The Bells of Shandon Tower to the incredible Castle and Gardens of Blarney (host to the world famous Blarney Stone.) Less than 15 minutes walk from the venue stands the beautiful campus of University College Cork as well as the breathtaking St. Finbarr’s Cathedral.
More information on all of these attractions as well as many others is available on the Discover Ireland website.
Within The Imperial Hotel itself are numerous facilities including a restaurant, café, bar and award winning spa (perfect for a back and shoulder massage if you’ve been up all night basing your models, or as a treat to earn back some of those brownie points from your significant other.)
